About Me

jo dodds

Jo Dodds is an entrepreneurial small business owner who first started her own part time business when she wanted to have a baby and couldn’t see how that was going to happen whilst commuting to London for her HR Director role. So, she negotiated with her boss to reduce her working days to three per week and off she went! Her first business was a local community magazine, which she still publishes in her home town.  Not long after starting the magazine she got pregnant, had a daughter, went on maternity leave and never went back to the corporate world. She now works full time on a number of businesses, being added to all the time, under the Counterpoint Matters brand.

“Now, I wonder why I didn’t start my own business much earlier.  Lack of Financial security was part of it but I think the biggest block was probably confidence and not even thinking that there was another way, until I wanted to start a family and things staying the same wasn’t an option either!

I absolutely love having my own business and more and more I’m finding that the elements of the business that allow me to help others to improve their businesses are the bits that I am enjoying more and more – hence why I’ve started this blog. I have recently found out that I am a ‘maven’.  I was at a seminar and the presenter was talking about the Malcolm Gladwell book ‘The Tipping Point’.  I thought I had read the book but I then realised I hadn’t as I had never heard of the phrase ‘maven’ and didn’t know what it meant. Taken from Malcolm Gladwell’s website – ’a maven means one who accumulates knowledge and who has information on a lot of different products or prices or places’.

I aim to share my experiences, ideas and knowledge on a regular basis including recommending resources that I discover. So, if you know about ’stuff’ that you think I should know about, or can share with other people then please let me know! I should also let you know that in some cases I promote products via affiliate links but this will never influence my reviews of the product.  In keeping with my ‘maven status’ (!) I don’t recommend stuff that I don’t think is any good!”
